So I’m actually super shocked that I haven’t done a home decor post yet. Why you might ask…well mainly because I am a frequent flyer in the home decor sections of Home Goods, TJMaxx, Marshalls, Hobby Lobby, and of course, my fav, Target. Tar-jayyyyy. Yasss. All the feels. So its clearly a shock that I haven’t written about it until now.
Every few months I get the itch to redecorate our apartment. It’s usually during a change of the seasons, or the start of January. Howeverrr, the itch is becoming more and more frequent thanks to images on Instagram and Pinterest. (Grrr to you babes with the gorgeous home decor pictures….#goals #inspo #goingbroke)
I’ve always been into crafts and decorating since I was a little girl. I would get sooo excited to redo my room. (I have before and after pics somewhere. Mom…). Anywayyyy, Scotty and I have lived in our current apartment for almost a year and a half and I’ve redecorated more times than I want to count, or share. I definitely fell down the decor rabbit hole once or twice. Ok, maybe five or six. Stop judging me! However, I’ve been trying to save money, so I’ve had to become even more crafty and think about how I can get the look I want, for less. Much less. For example, rather than searching and buying multiple gold mason jars, I bought a bunch of clear ones and spray painted them gold. (I use them as vases…LOVE.) I have something similar on my nightstand.
In trying to save and budget money, I have to admit that I didn’t really decorate for the holidays. Ok, that’s a lie. I decorated butttt I didn’t go out and buy everything I saw and wanted. I just used things from last year. With the holidays comes buffalo plaid. And we have it everywhere…it is winter and trendy after all. Never the less, I’ve been getting sick of looking at it and wanting to brighten things up a bit around the apartment. Especially since we had 3 throw pillows, a throw blanket, and candle in our living room. Which is what you see EVERY TIME you walk into our place. Ugh. Next.
This past weekend, I was perusing the aisles of Hobby Lobby and found the cutest glass vase and I couldn’t leave without it! I knew exactly what I could put in it and where to put it. (You’'ll see what I mean). I wanted to go for something to brighten the apartment up a bit, but also appear calming. Lavender like. This vase works wonders. I am soooo happy when I walk in and see our new decor. I can’t stop smiling. It’s ridiculous. Especially with those pillows. Common.
I also brought out a marble throw pillow that I found over a year ago (thanks Home Goods) and has been hiding in our guest bedroom. Which is rarely used and seen. How could I hide this beauty?! I know I’m slapping myself now.
One thing that absolutely drives me nuts is when the clickers (remotes) are left thrown on the couch or coffee table. It makes me crazyyyy!! I immediately walk in the room, see them and have to put them somewhere. (We were leaving them “neatly” on the arm of the couch). But as I was cleaning up the other day, I found this cute double planter (which was a centerpiece at a summer wedding and we won). I thought ohhh, what about that for the clickers?! And I love it. Some people will hate it, but I don’t care. It’s my apartment and I do what I want!
Finally, the last part of home decor was from another dark day on Pinterest. But this was for my bathroom. I wanted something cute to hold a vase and the brilliant poopouri we have. I searched high and low and was starting to panic when I didn’t like anything. However, Michaels’s came to the rescue and I found this gorgeous box tray thing (you’ll see) and was able to fit what I wanted and needed inside. And I absolutely love it.
Hope you enjoyed my home decor post! I promise I will be doing more of these. I’d love to see your home decor and hear about how you get inspired. Drop a comment below.
Love you sassy babes.
