I decided to write this post in hopes of taking my own advice. With all the traveling I've done, you'd think I'd be a little better about packing. I'm not. I'm an overpacker. Self-proclaimed #overpacker to the extreme. So, I figured with my beach vacay coming up, I'd share some tips I've learned along the way that have helped as well as tips I want to try and master. Who knows...this post may change my packing game!
BACKPACK
Luckily, cute backpacks are part of the fashion craze, so you won't feel frumpy or awkward! I've been using my backpack as a purse as well as keeping the essentials for when I'm on the road. I They come in all different sizes, shapes, colors, and materials. This is mine from Target (you'll get thousands of likes and compliments!) and this Tumi backpack is the one I'm dyingggg for.
THINK OF YOUR ITINERARY
It helps to remember where you're going and what you'll be doing. I always like to know my events and activities so I can have a few options. (This is where the overpacking comes into play)
TRY IT ON
I never pack clothes without trying them on first. They might not fit the same way or the way I want it to. Also, by trying an outfit on, you'll see what you need for it. That cute lace bralette or strapless bra is not something you want to forget!
UTILIZE SHOE SPACE
I pack lots of shoes when I travel. That will never change, sooo I've learned to work with the space I got. I always pack socks and any underwear I can inside of my shoes so they don't take up space elsewhere. (This also helps shoes stay intact while traveling and avoiding that crushed looked when you unpack).
PACK YOUR CLOTHING AROUND YOUR HATS
I love hats and I always bring at least one with me when I travel. I've learned to pack my clothing around and inside of my hats so I don't squish or ruin them during my travels. Many will tell you to wear your hat on the plane, and I've done it before, however, the hat was annoying because I had it on my lap, resting on my bag...trust me. Pack your hats.
BEAUTY ESSENTIALS ONLY
If you haven't used that rockin' red lip or cat eye at home, chances are you're not gonna start on vacation. Pack only your truly essential beauty products that you use on a daily basis. Anddd...if your moisturizer comes in travel size, bring that! Travel size items are great and leave extra room in your suitcase for other things.
BRING A BAG FOR DIRTY LAUNDRY
My mom taught me this trick when I was younger. However, as I got older I didn't follow through with this each time and unpacking was a nightmare. I had to wash everything because I didn't know what was truly dirty and what had been near dirty clothes. Ew. I also read that Hunter Premo does this as well. #overpackersdon'tlikedirtyclothes (Ps - check her out if you don't know who she is - she's sweet, nice, gorgeous and has a great fashion sense!)
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER'S SUITCASE
This is my savior! I swear!! I will throw last minute things in Scotty's suitcase, usually my makeup and toiletries, as we are heading out the door. He just rolls his eyes and tries to tell me there's no room. But I make it work!!
When I travel with my parents, my mom and I do this to my dad! He is a minimalist while my mom and I are not! He always gets the overload from both of us! Sorry dad!! (I think he should get a bigger suitcase LOL)
Hope some of these tips help you out next time you're traveling!! Let me know if you have any other tips for us #overpackers!
