Halloween Ready

Good evening everyone!! I just wanted to tell you all how excited I am for Halloween tomorrow!! :) I am so excited for Halloween that I made this week Spirit Week at work!!!! Yes, our students can wear their costumes to school!! (As long as they are appropriate). One of my favorite things to do on Halloween is look at all the students in their costumes. It is so exciting and interesting to see who is creative and changes the rules of fashion to make their costume unique.

But I also need to share with you that I went to the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze two weeks ago and it was incredible!! Basically there are thousands of pumpkins lit up and "blazing" (see what I did there) down by the Hudson. This year they had the Tappan Zee Bridge as well as the Statue of Liberty!!! Every creation is made of pumpkins. If you have not yet been, this is definitely something you should put on your bucket list! (And google)...

Below are some images from my trip down Pumpkin Lane.

Now, I am off to put the final touches on my teacher costume as I start to watch Stranger Things on Netflix. How have I missed this show?! I guess I'm starting it at the right time of year though.

Goodnight my fashionistas.

Lost in City Fashion

New York City is one of my favorite places to wander around and get "lost" in the world of fashion. The main reason I was in the city this past weekend was for my cousin's art showing at a gallery on the Lower East side. Me, being the fashionista, had NO idea what to wear to his showing. Do I dress fancy? Edgy? Funky? Conservative? So I did what many of us do. I turned to google.

I found out some valuable art gallery attire and had a few outfits I prepared. (And by prepared, I mean I brought about 6 different outfit options with 3 different shoe options).

When I entered the gallery, I was  blown away by the art. Matt Tierney has an exceptional eye for color, detail, and precision for his dancer series and leaves us with our own interpretations of the work. I highly recommend going and seeing his work.

However, I often found my eyes wandering away from the canvas' and landing upon the different men and women in the room. Their styles were eclectic and beautiful. I couldn't help but stare. So if you were there and I was staring, I apologize. I was admiring your sense of fashion...not being a weirdo. I promise.

Some women were dressed in beautiful dresses; floor length, short, lace, bodycon. Others dressed more on the conservative side with dressy pants and a blouse or blazer. Some ladies decided to go funky and grunge and wore ripped jeans, flannel, beanies, and oversized jackets. But my favorite style of all were the women dressed edgy. These women took a bit a piece of everything and put it together. Combat boots with a dress and leather jacket, or leather pants with a blouse and bomber jacket.

I was amazed and inspired. Women [and men] of all different shapes, sizes, ethnicities, and ages came together in one place to see an artist and his work. I loved seeing everyone mingling and talking over a shared interest.

Art brought me into the city the other night, but fashion kept me in the city longer than I planned. I was instantly inspired and decided to stay longer.

I wandered the city and observed men and women and the styles they portrayed. I constantly asked myself, "What makes them gravitate towards these styles?"

I am clearly inspired and can't wait to see what more the fashion of New York City has to offer.

Goodnight fashion lovers,

Courtney xo

Men are Blogging Too #mfm

My dad always told me, "Fashion will change, but style never will." Those words ring true in my head everyday. However, the access to fashion has changed over time. Instead of waiting for our monthly subscription to VOGUE or GQ, we can now access fashion online and through social media.

I can log onto Instagram and instantly find an outfit I love. I can then follow that person's page and hope they linked their outfit details in their post. This can all happen in a matter of minutes, even seconds.

Other times, I look at an outfit and configure my own, based on the image or images I see. Women's fashion blogs have been the hype for years and there are amazing, unique, and creative fashion bloggers; Sincerely Jules, SouthernCurls&Pearls, and Something Navy to name a few.

However, the real bloggers taking over the fashion world are the men!

Real men are blogging about fashion. Finally!!

They have amazing names for their blogs and they also have quite the following! Hundreds...Thousands...Millions! Maybe it's because they look so hot in their suits and ties, or v-neck t-shirts and form fitting pants, or maybe people love what they have to say. Whatever the case, they've got a following and I love it.

Men and women are following men's fashion blogs to see what is trending, where in the world the clothing is popular and how men are styling themselves. Not only do these men look amazing in their pictures, but many of them can write and often add humor to their posts.

It is so exciting to know that men can scroll through social media and figure out what to wear. (I know a few guys that have searched "what to wear on a date" or "what to wear to an event"). I find it cute that they are putting in the effort to look good.

So to all those amazing male bloggers out there, thank you!

...And keep killin' it in the fashion world.

Some men's blogs I'm currently loving at the moment...and you should probably check out:

  • FourPins.com
  • StyleGirlfriend.com (this is actually written by a female)

Working Out without the Gym

V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N!! Who doesn't love that word?! It definitely ranks top 5 in my vocabulary. I also love any vacations or get-aways to the beach. Seeing how I am a beach bum, I live in my bikinis and denim cut-offs all summer long. But, knowing that I will be in skimpy bathing suits, also means I can't inhale a pint (or gallon) of Ben and Jerry's ice cream when I've had a bad day. I know that I need to eat healthy and work out so I don't feel like Shamu washed up on the shore.

But, that doesn't mean I don't indulge. Trust me, I WILL eat that chocolate cake pop from Starbucks. I WILL have some delicious ice cream. Ohh and I'll definitely have those scrumptious looking chocolate chip cookies straight out of the oven. Yeah, I'll definitely have those.

I just know that I need to balance my diet and my work out regime.

Going on vacation doesn't always mean there is a gym nearby. Many hotels have them, however, my beach house sadly doesn't have a squat rack or cable machines in the garage. There are gyms on the island, but I refuse to spend hundreds of dollars to lift weights when I have my "peak membership" with access to everything for the grand price of $19.99/month, 5 minutes from my apartment. (I'd rather spend that money on clothes or bikinis...duh). However, I do bring light weights and resistance bands with me when I travel. I am able to do HIIT workouts with weights or just my body weight and I know plenty of amazing exercises that I can perform in the house, in the garage, and the beach!

Think of sand as your best friend and worst enemy. It creates a resistance, so digging into it while running is a great workout in itself. Whether you run down by the water or on the softer sand, they will both leave you dripping with sweat and legs burning.

Squats, squat jumps, lunges, lunges with a step-up, push-ups, sit-ups, and swimming are all intense, especially when you're doing it in the sun.

Knowing that I can workout and get a tan at the same time is my favorite way to workout, especially when I have the beach to myself and can embrace the calmness as well as enjoy the beautiful view of the sun rising over the ocean. (When I can jack my ass out of bed that early). Otherwise, I   take in the peacefulness and tranquility of the water and beach as I workout before people start claiming their territory and water front locations.

Getting your workout in early is even better so you can check out the men in red for the rest of the day...

...and since I've already done my squats and planks today...you know where I'll be.
